A Figa, or "Mano Fico" charm is a traditional good luck charm from the Mediterranean. Comprised of a clasped hand with the thumb thrust between the first fingers, it has a long history with a moderately obscene and very colorful past, including a reference in Dante's Inferno. This necklace was originally hand-carved in clay before making a silicone mold. The pendant is made using the lost wax casting process and is cast locally in NYC.
The oxidized brass chain is 24" long.
Over time, the brass will age, developing a beautiful patina. This is one of my favorite properties of brass: old and worn, with a natural finish that can only come from being handled. Smooth, but not too glossy; shiny but not too bright. The chains will also develop naturally, shifting their color modestly to a more natural state.
