Rose Thorn Necklace
The rose and its thorns have been a symbol in culture and literature since the ancient Roman festival, "Rosalia" which celebrated the both life and death, rebirth rejuvenation and memory through the adornment of the flowers. Roses were worn both as crowns and garlands, as well as placed at monuments and graves of the dead during this time to celebrate the lives of ancestors. Throughout the middle ages it was associated with the Virgin Mary, and through her royalty in general; and beginning in the renaissance the rose developed into the complex range of symbolism and meaning we have today.
So whatever your chosen symbolic association (or just because you like the flower) this is a perfect delicate necklace to wear when you want a to add something just a tad sharp to your wardrobe. This rose thorn necklace has been cast from a genuine rose thorn (from my mother's rose bush!) and hangs from a delicate sterling silver 18" chain. They are cast and finished locally in NYC.
