Elaborate Topaz ring with the Face of Medusa
A handmade ring featuring a pale topaz with a structured setting and a a pair of Medusa faces on the shoulders, reminiscent of elaborate Renaissance designs such as those of the French engraver and goldsmith Pierre Woeiriot de Bouzey II. His fantastical designs, intricately detailed with people, faces, animals and intricate motifs exist mainly in the form of engravings some of which can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art by clicking here.
The upside-down set topaz measures 8.5x7mm. This one-of-a-kind ring was hand carved from jewelers wax to the fit the specific dimensions of this stone, and was cast and set locally in NYC.
