Bright Orange Sapphire Ring with Memento Mori Skulls
A handmade vermeil ring featuring three bright orange sapphires (and a hidden yellow sapphire!) delicately set into a hand-carved decorative band with a pair of skulls on the shoulders and vines throughout the band, reminiscent of elaborate memento mori designs from the European Renaissance. It follows the rich tradition of memento mori, a Latin phrase meaning "remember death," to remind the wearer to live every day to its fullest. There is also a hidden yellow sapphire on the backside of the ring.
This ring is 14k gold plated over sterling silver, and as it is worn the gold plating will wear away in the raised areas, with the gold remaining in the recessed parts of the ring. This two-tone technique illustrates one of my favorite aspects of precious metals: as they are worn they become personalized to each individual, and develop over time.
These four sapphires weigh a total of roughly 1.5 carats. This one-of-a-kind ring was hand carved from jewelers wax to the fit the specific dimensions of this stone, and was cast and set locally in NYC.
This ring is available for immediate shipping in a size 5. We would also be happy to work with you on a similar style if this fit doesn't work for you. Please feel free to reach out to us via the contact form on out custom page here!
