Ball and Claw Necklace
A classic motif, thought to have originally come from ancient depictions of Dragons holding a pearl from china, and animal feet in furniture can be traced to ancient Greek and Etruscan tables and stands. This imagery was combined in Western Europe, first in English silver and used furniture.
This necklace was originally hand-carved in clay before making a silicone mold. The pendant is made using the lost wax casting process and is cast locally in NYC.
The oxidized brass chain is 24" long.
Over time, the brass will age, developing a beautiful patina. This is one of my favorite properties of brass: old and worn, with a natural finish that can only come from being handled. Smooth, but not too glossy; shiny but not too bright. The chains will also develop naturally, shifting their color modestly to a more natural state.
